If you are an experienced hiker, you’ll love the longer, more challenging hike to the Faulhorn peak. Start on the same trail to the Bachalpsee, but keep hiking past the lake and up the mountain, about 90 mins more to reach the Faulhorn peak.

Trail Description

At the top, you’ll find the Faulhorn mountain hut and a spectacular viewpoint over the cliffs, peering down to bright blue lakes near Interlaken. We usually have lunch at the hut, with simple Swiss mountain meals like soup, cheese, and sausages. Best to bring cash.

Return the way you came to Grindelwald First where you can optionally do the amusements.

Make sure to start early to make sure you get back before the gondola closes around 17:30.

Longer option

If you prefer a one way hike, you can continue hiking past the Faulhorn and end up on the Schynige Platte mountain, instead of going back to Grindelwald First.

How to get there

Location: Grindelwald First Gondola - Dorfstrasse 187, 3818 Grindelwald, 10 mins walk from Grindelwald train station (not Grindelwald Terminal).

In summer 2024, it costs CHF 68/adult for a round trip ticket on the gondola.
