This hike starts in Gimmelwald and leads up the Sefinental river valley. It ends at the Chilchbalm viewpoint, where you'll get a view of the glacier, waterfalls, tall mountains, and green meadows along the river. Hike back the way you came.

Most of the way is a wide dirt path, often in the forest, giving welcome shade on a hot day. You are usually above the river and there is no water access. There are signs warning you not to get in the water or drink it.

There is one picnic area with a firepit about 25 mins from Gimmelwald. Otherwise, not official picnic areas.

Some parts of the path are steep with loose gravel and rock, a bit tricky to walk on. No services or water along the trail.

How to get there

Ride the cable car from Stechelberg or Mürren to Gimmelwald. The trail starts directly from the cable car, following trail signs labeled "Chilchbalm."
