Chilchbalm is a glacial basin at end of the Sefinen Valley, where you can enjoy views of the glacier, waterfalls, and tall mountain peaks. There is a large grassy meadow along the river flowing from the glacier, a nice place for a picnic.

This meadow is sometimes filled with cows, often with baby cows in early summer. So be aware and approach carefully.

How to get there

From Stechelberg or Mürren, ride a cable car to Gimmelwald.

The Sefinen Valley trail starts directly from the cable car, following trail signs labeled "Chilchbalm." It takes about 1h30 on way to reach Chilchbalm. Return the way you came. See trail info.

You could also visit Chilchbalm as a detour as you hike down from Schilthorn/Birg or hiking up to Rotstock hut.
