Tunnel Mountain Resort sits up on Tunnel Mountain, a short ride or a 20–25 minute downhill walk into the heart of Banff. It's quieter, surrounded by trees, and much closer to trails and nature than the hotels on Banff Avenue. It's appealing to people who want a bit of peace and a base that feels more like a mountain getaway than a downtown stop, without being isolated from town or the transit network.

The property itself is a mix of condo-style suites, cabins, and larger units, most with kitchenettes or full kitchens and plenty of space compared with typical hotel rooms, which is useful if you're travelling with family or friends. Some rooms feel a bit dated in their finishes and appliances — you'll see furniture and layouts from different eras — but they're generally comfortable and practical for a multi-night stay. There's an indoor pool and hot tub area, sauna and steam rooms, a fitness space, and outdoor barbecue spots, as well as free Wi-Fi, free bus passes for Banff's ROAM system, and complimentary parking included with your stay.

If you're after a stay that leans into Banff's outdoor setting with a quieter location and more room to spread out, Tunnel Mountain Resort hits that mark — even if some aspects aren't the newest — and the trade-off in distance from downtown is softened by transit access and the natural surroundings. You can also find better value in Canmore for brand-new units if you'd like condo-style living, but again, you'll be trading in nature for more modern amenities.
