Maligne Lake is the true crown jewel of Jasper National Park and arguably the most beautiful lake in the Canadian Rockies. As one noted, "If Lake Louise is the pearl of the Canadian Rockies, Maligne Lake is the whole necklace." The 22-km-long glacially fed wonder captivates with its striking azure waters set against a dramatic backdrop of towering peaks and visible glaciers. We consider it the highlight of Jasper and something
that visitors can not miss.
The lake's pristine shoreline offers excellent hiking opportunities and unparalleled photography spots that change with the light throughout the day. For the full Maligne Lake experience, visit between mid-June and early September, when access is optimal and the vivid blue waters are most spectacular. Early mornings provide mirror-like reflections, while the afternoon sun casts a magical light across the landscape, particularly around Spirit Island during boat cruises. We highly recommend that everyone try to book this, which requires advanced reservations as they sell out every summer.
