Golden is one of the premier snowmobiling destinations in Canada, and Golden Snowmobile Rentals is the go-to outfitter for getting out into it. Operating out of Mountain Motorsports in town, GSR offers current-model-year Polaris and Ski-Doo machines for rental alongside fully guided tours led by CMBGA-certified guides who have worked these mountains for close to two decades.
A word of honest context before you book: snowmobiling in Golden is not the groomed trail experience that most visitors imagine when they picture snowmobiling. This is big mountain sledding — steep, technical, deep powder terrain in a serious alpine environment. Riders need to be physically fit, comfortable on a powerful machine, and prepared to work hard. High-marking, tree runs, and steep sidehills are part of the experience, and getting a sled unstuck from deep powder — which will happen — requires genuine athleticism and energy. We've gone several times and, without fail, always manage to get a sled stuck. If your frame of reference is a groomed trail tour in Yellowstone or Algonquin, this is an entirely different sport.
That said, GSR caters to a range of ability levels and the certified guides are exceptional at reading their guests and matching terrain accordingly. Beginners are welcome, but go in with realistic expectations and an open mind about the effort involved. The terrain around Golden — six distinct riding zones, over 240 km of groomed trails maintained by the Golden Snowmobile Club, and sweeping sub-alpine meadows at elevation — is world-class. Full avalanche safety packages, including beacon, shovel, probe, and airbag backpacks, are available alongside every rental.
