If you're looking for a short hike with a huge payoff in the Julian Alps, Slemenova Špica is your spot. This relatively easy trail starts at Vršič Pass and winds through pine forests and rocky switchbacks before opening up to jaw-dropping alpine views. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic vistas of Mount Jalovec and the dramatic peaks that define Triglav National Park. It's especially stunning in the fall when the larch trees turn golden — one of the most photogenic times to visit. The hike is about 1.5–2 hours roundtrip, making it a perfect half-day adventure for families, casual hikers, or anyone wanting a taste of Slovenia's high-mountain magic without a full-day trek. Bring snacks and soak up the views — the grassy summit is made for lingering.
Unfortunately we were not able to complete this hike when we visited in late May because there was still snow at high elevations. We recommend visiting between late June and September if you want to experience the best hiking that Triglav National Park has to offer.
