Hengifossarvatn is a picturesque lake located in Iceland, nestled amidst stunning landscapes. The area around the lake features dramatic cliffs and lush greenery, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. The scenery showcases the unique geological features that Iceland is famous for. Whether it's for a peaceful day or an adventurous hike nearby, Hengifossarvatn offers a little slice of Icelandic paradise.
Photo Tip: Fly your drone here! It's an awesome way to get a cool perspective of all the striations in the rock on camera.
If you decide to hike around we recommend both Hengifoss & Litlanesfoss. One of them has really cool basalt columns around it. The second one has this crazy red tint to the rocks around it. It was bigger than we anticipated, and the hike was a bit steeper than we anticipated also. We recommend allocating about 1.5-2 hours for this hike. Depending on how far you go, it’s around 3 miles round trip. We highly recommend wearing hiking shoes with good traction for this hike or using poles if you need them since it is slippery rock.
