Machalilla National Park is a stunning nature haven located in the far western side of Ecuador. Covering an area of 289.8 square miles (750.59 sq km), the national park encompasses both dry and fog forests, numerous beaches and islands, as well as a variety of marine waterways. Bird watchers flock to the park to catch a glimpse of its abundance of migratory and nesting birds like the Peruvian screech owl, toucan, and green macaw. Other wildlife that inhabit this habitat include iguanas, armadillos, monkeys, and even elusive jaguars. Visitors may also get an insight into the culture and history of Ecuador through the Agua Blanca community, which holds archaeological sites and a museum. There are also numerous trails across the park for hiking and the island of Isla de la Plata for spotted wildlife as well as snorkeling and scuba diving experiences. Any enthusiastic traveler should consider Machalilla National Park as their next destination!
