Cotacachi Volcano stands tall amongst the Ecuadorian Andes in Imbabura Province. Reaching 4,944 meters above sea level, Cotacachi is capped with snow giving it an imposing presence. Visitors to the region can take a journey up to the summit by way of various trails or take a direct route if they have prior mountaineering experience. Cotacachi was first climbed in 1880 by Edward Whymper, Jean-Antoine Carrel and Louis Carrel. The area around Cotacachi volcano provides adventurers with spectacular scenery and exhilarating activities to keep them engaged. At the base of Cotacachi volcano you can find the Cuicocha crater lake. Many people mention it's a hard climb due to its loose rocks.
