Iona is a small island located in Scotland's Inner Hebrides.
Despite its size though there's a lot to see and do here - not least admire the most amazing white sandy beaches and clear waters - and you can easily plan a day here.
Some key things to keep an eye out for:
The island houses Iona Abbey, which was established in the 6th century by Saint Columba and is definitely worth a visit
You can rent bikes at the Iona Craft Shop or walk up to the beaches at the North of the island in about 30 minutes (there is only one road so you can't get lost). Some of the beaches up here are stunning and are best enjoyed by planning longer on the island. With a bike however you can also head to St Columba's Bay on the other side (also beautiful)
Lots of food and drink spots - we love the Rookery Cafe and the St Columba Larder
The crossing to Iona from Fionnphort on Mull is very short (15 minutes) but be sure to check the final crossing times if you are looking to spend the day on the island and aren't staying.
This is a really special place and while the drive to Fionnphort is long from places like Tobermory, it is incredibly scenic and well worth it!
