Selong Belanak is the beach where most surfers in Lombok catch their very first wave. This wide, crescent-shaped bay on the south coast pairs postcard scenery — white sand, turquoise water, and water buffalo wandering the shoreline — with the gentlest learning conditions on the island. It's a pure beach break over a 100% sandy bottom, so there's no sharp reef to worry about, and the slow, soft, rolling waves break close to shore and don't change much with the season, making it a reliable year-round spot. The bay faces southwest and is sheltered by headlands, so even on bigger swells only a fraction reaches the inside. Mornings before the wind picks up are glassiest. The beach is lined with warungs renting soft-tops and offering cheap lessons — prices are usually better further from the entrance. It's roughly a 30–40 minute drive from Kuta Lombok, and the sunsets here are worth staying for even if you don't surf.
There are tons of surfing schools lined up along the beach, together with countless warungs - it is usually quite lively here. Sunbed rentals are available too.
If you are lucky you might witness the iconic sight of the local cowherd leading his buffalos across the beach in the afternoon.
The parking fee is 10k IDR per vehicle.
