Tanjung Aan is a stunning horseshoe-shaped bay just 15 minutes east of Kuta Lombok, with flour-soft white sand and clear turquoise water framed by green hills. A patch of reef sits in the middle of the bay, and when there's enough swell — usually anything over three foot — it serves up one of Lombok's most forgiving rights along with a mellow left that crumbles into deeper channels. It's essentially an A-frame, with a gentle inside section ideal for beginners and a punchier outside that suits intermediates looking to progress. The wave is consistent and works year-round, with offshore winds blowing from the north, though the dry season (roughly April–October) brings the cleanest, most reliable conditions. You paddle out straight from the beach, and crowds stay light.
Surfing lessons usually cost 350k IDR, board and boat rental (for getting you out to the wave) is 150k. Sunbeds are 100k for two per day but can be negotiated down to 50k most of the time.
