One of the things that fascinated us most about Belgrade was its Yugoslav history and the city's abundance of brutalist architecture. Buildings like this offer a glimpse into a period that continues to shape the identity and appearance of the city today.

Even if you're not usually interested in architecture, it's difficult not to notice these bold concrete structures. They tell a story of a different era and make Belgrade feel unlike almost any other European capital we've visited.

Our recommendation is to start wandering around the blocks of New Belgrade, beginning at Blok 21 and making your way towards Blok 29. Don't worry too much about following a strict route. Let your instincts guide you, turn into side streets, look up, and explore. Some of the most interesting buildings, courtyards, and everyday scenes reveal themselves when you're simply walking without a plan.
