Located in the heart of Belgrade's academic quarter, Student Park is a pleasant green space surrounded by university buildings and monuments dedicated to some of Serbia's most influential thinkers. Before becoming a park, the area served various purposes throughout history, including a marketplace and a Turkish cemetery.
While the history is interesting, what stood out to us most was something entirely different: the dogs 🐶
Belgrade is one of the most dog-friendly cities we have ever visited. We were genuinely surprised by how many dogs walk freely alongside their owners and how incredibly well-behaved they are. Student Park seemed to be one of the neighborhood gathering spots for them 🥹.
In the mornings especially, the park fills with locals walking their dogs. Dogs sniff, play, socialize, and go about their morning routines while owners chat with one another. There was a real sense of community here. People greeted familiar dogs, looked after one another's pets, and it often felt as though everyone knew everyone.
Our recommendation is simple: grab a burek from a nearby bakery, pick up a coffee, find a bench under the trees, and spend some time watching local life unfold around you. If you're a dog lover, this might become one of your favorite spots in Belgrade 🤍
