If you’re looking for something raw and completely off the beaten path in eastern El Salvador, Ausoles de Chilanguera is worth of going 😍.

Getting there is part of the adventure. The road is rough, full of holes and stones, so you’ll need to drive very carefully and ideally with a 4x4. But the countryside around you is beautiful and quiet. No crowds, no vendors, no tour buses. Just open land, cows and silence.

When you arrive, there’s a local man who lives nearby and guides visitors down to the hot springs. It’s important to tip him, because he helps you access the spot safely without stepping into boiling hot water.

Boiling geothermal water rising straight from the earth, steam everywhere, the ground literally alive. We honestly haven’t seen water bubbling like this anywhere else. It’s powerful and a bit intimidating 😳 You have to be careful because the water is extremely hot. So hot that the guide said if you touch, there is only bones left 💀.

What makes it even more surreal is the backdrop: the view of San Miguel volcano rising in the distance while steam surrounds you. It feels wild, untouched, and very Salvadoran.
