Location:
Lighthouse Beach is located near Wynyard on Tasmania’s north-west coast, sitting beneath the iconic Table Cape Lighthouse. This rugged and scenic beach offers sweeping views over Bass Strait, dramatic coastal cliffs, and a peaceful, remote atmosphere perfect for exploring.
How to get there:
From Wynyard, follow Table Cape Road towards the lighthouse. Continue past the lookout area and follow signs to Lighthouse Beach. There’s a small parking area near the track that leads down to the sand. Access is via a short but steep path, so good footwear is recommended.
Is it suitable for swimming?
Swimming is not recommended. Lighthouse Beach is exposed to strong waves, changing tides, and powerful currents. It’s best enjoyed for walking, photography, and taking in the coastal scenery rather than entering the water.
Can you see wildlife there?
Yes — the area is known for seabirds, rock pool creatures at low tide, and sometimes dolphins offshore. During the right season, you might also spot whales migrating along the coast from the clifftop lookout areas.
Dogs allowed:
Dogs may be allowed in certain areas depending on Waratah–Wynyard Council rules, but restrictions can apply due to wildlife and coastal protection. Check current council guidelines before bringing a dog.
