Location:

Round Mountain Lookout is located in north-west Tasmania, near the small town of Wilmot, along the Cethana Road (C136) corridor. The lookout sits atop a hill, offering sweeping views over Lake Cethana, surrounding farmland, and the distant Western Tiers mountains. The road to the lookout is sealed and suitable for all vehicles.

How to get there:

From Wilmot, follow C136 (Cethana Road) toward Lake Cethana. The lookout is clearly signposted, with a small pull-off area for parking. A short, well-formed path leads from the parking area to the viewing platform.

Hike length:

None — this is a very short walk of less than 100 meters from the car park to the lookout.

Difficulty Level:

Very easy — accessible for all visitors.

Dogs allowed:

Yes — dogs are allowed on a leash, as this lookout is outside national park boundaries.

More information:

Round Mountain Lookout provides expansive views over Lake Cethana, rolling hills, and the distant Western Tiers. The elevated position makes it a great spot for photography, particularly at sunrise or sunset when the lake reflects the sky.

It’s a peaceful roadside stop that can be combined with other nearby attractions in the Wilmot region, such as Forth Falls, Cethana Dam, and Guide Falls. The lookout is ideal for a quick scenic break or as part of a leisurely drive through north-west Tasmania.
