Location:

The Whyte River Walk is located near Strahan on Tasmania’s west coast. The track starts from the Strahan Village area and follows the Whyte River through lush rainforest and along the riverbanks. Parking is available near the trailhead.

Hike length:

Approximately 3–4 km return, taking around 1–1.5 hours depending on pace and stops.

Difficulty Level:

Easy — the trail is mostly flat, well-formed, and suitable for most walkers, including families. There are some small roots and minor obstacles along the track.

Dogs allowed:

The Whyte River Walk winds through temperate rainforest, with tall eucalypts, ferns, and moss-covered trees creating a serene environment. Along the way, you’ll hear the gentle flow of the river and may spot local wildlife such as birds, wallabies, and platypus in the water.

The track is ideal for a relaxing stroll, photography or a short nature escape while visiting Strahan. It’s particularly beautiful after rainfall, when the river is fuller and the forest feels lush and vibrant. The trail provides a peaceful contrast to the more popular nearby attractions such as Gordon River cruises.
