Location:

Champagne Falls is located in the Lemonthyme area of north-west Tasmania, not far from Cradle Mountain and Moina. Access is via Dolcoath Road, which turns onto Lemonthyme Drive — a steep, narrow and unsealed track that can be rough in sections. Most vehicles can make it with care, but the road may feel slow and bumpy.

You should park at Lemonthyme Lodge, where the walking tracks to both Champagne Falls and Bridal Veil Falls begin.

Hike length:

Around 6 km return to Champagne Falls, or approximately 8 km return if you combine Champagne Falls with Bridal Veil Falls on the same hike. Expect 2–3 hours return depending on conditions and time spent at the falls.

Difficulty Level:

Moderate–Hard — the track includes uneven ground, muddy patches, steep sections and slippery roots, especially after rain. The return climb can feel demanding. Combining both waterfalls makes it a longer but very rewarding loop.

Dogs allowed:

No, dogs are not permitted.

More information:

The trail to Champagne Falls starts from Lemonthyme Lodge and is generally easy to follow, winding through lush rainforest with moss-covered logs, ferns and dense undergrowth. Early on, you’ll cross small creeks and pass several scenic cascades tucked into the forest — perfect for photography lovers.

If you choose to visit both waterfalls in one hike, you’ll reach Bridal Veil Falls first via a short side track. This dramatic curtain-like waterfall spills over a large rock overhang and is one of the standout sights in the area. From there, the track continues onward toward Champagne Falls.

The final descent to Champagne Falls is steeper and narrower, with damp rocks, tree roots and occasionally slippery mud, so take care. Once at the viewpoint, you’ll be treated to a wide, elegant multi-tiered waterfall set deep within pristine temperate rainforest. While the base can be overgrown and slippery, the main viewing area offers an excellent perspective.

Combining both Champagne Falls and Bridal Veil Falls creates a stunning half-day waterfall walk — an absolute must for anyone exploring Tasmania’s hidden rainforest gems.
