There’s a proper winter feel to this hike that makes the whole gorge feel alive — especially after a good downpour during the winter months. This short out and back route which is 3.9km takes you along the valley floor to the base of First Falls with an optional detour up to Giant’s Cave and Kookaburra Rock lookout, so you can tailor it to how much time you’ve got.

The First Falls are at their best in winter and after heavy rain, and the walk is a great spot for wildlife — keep an eye out for koalas in the gums above, wild rabbits hopping around and roos too. It’s a lovely place to just stop and slow down, but do expect more people in the cooler months. I always recommend aiming for early morning to beat the crowds, and don't forget to bring a camera — the lush gorge feels after rain are the real reason to come but that's not to say it's not as beautiful during summer!
