This site is one of those unexpected finds that gives you a real sense of the scale of farming history in the South East. The Woakwine Cutting was carved through the range by just two men using a D7 tractor to drain swampland for agriculture!! Starting in May 1957, the project took three years to complete, with the cutting stretching one kilometre long and reaching a depth of 28.34 metres at its deepest point.

Today, you can stop at a viewing platform and take in the size of the cutting from above. There are also information boards and old machinery on display, which help tell the story of the project. We visited this spot on the way to Beachport, and it made for an interesting stop to stretch the legs and learn more about the area’s history.
