Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen is an ancient and bustling Thai Buddhist Temple located in the Phasi Charoen district of Bangkok. Established in 1610, it was supported by Thai Kings until the late 19th century and underwent a major revival under the leadership of meditation master Luang Pu Sodh Candasaro from 1916-1959. Seven years after his passing, Somdet Chuang Varapuño took over the role of Abbot and made international headlines when his appointment as Supreme Patriarch was stalled and finally withdrawn. Popular amongst nun mae chi, Wat Paknam is known for its charity and worldwide Dhammakaya tradition propagation project. Additionally, the temple boasts some of the most stunning Buddha statues and murals in Bangkok such as the Maharachamongkhon Stupa and the large bronze Buddha statue built in 2021. Wat Paknam is well worth visiting, perfect for any spiritual traveler's pilgrimage!
