Byōdō-in is a Buddhist temple located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, known for its iconic Phoenix Hall. Originally built as a villa in 998, it was later converted into a temple in 1052 by Fujiwara no Yorimichi. The highlight of Byōdō-in is the Phoenix Hall, completed in 1053, featuring a stunning Amida Buddha statue created by Jōchō.
