Nanzoin Temple in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture is home to what could be the world's biggest bronze statue- an impressive 41 metres in length and 11 meters in height, with a weight of 300 tons. It's Reclining Buddha (Nehanzo) was constructed in 1995 by the Myanmar Buddhist Council in gratitude for the aid Nanzoin had been sending to Myanmar and Nepal. Visitors can explore the temple complex with chapels and shrines scattered over the hillside and there's also the annual Sasaguri pilgrimmage which is 44 kilometres long and takes 3 days to complete. As well as the giant Nehanzo, Nanzoin has many other exciting things to offer- from statues of buddhas 500 disciples (arhats) to the impressive Fudo Myo-o monument- making it an essential place to visit!
