Ancient giant trees, reaching taller than the tallest redwoods alive today, have been found fossilized in Thailand's Petrified Forest Park. The longest petrified log discovered spans up to 237 feet, suggesting that the original towering tree was likely over 330 feet tall! The trees belonged to Koompassia elegans family, usually ranging between 5-133 feet high when alive today. Scientists believe this could be an example of convergent evolution, where two distantly related species come together to create a similar end result - in this case, height. Despite the sheer size of these fossils, no living tree in Thailand approaches this numerical feat today.
