Wat Chamthewi, located 2km west of Lamphun's centre, is a renowned monastery known for its historic charm and beauty. The legendary Suwan Chang Kot chedi was built by King Mahantayot to enshrine the remains of his mother, Queen Chamthewi - an iconic sight for all visitors. Built in AD 755, this temple has withstood the test of time, remaining intact despite all odds. The various tiers are scattered with Buddha figurines from the 9th century, each one decreasing in size as it ascends. Not only is this an incredible cultural tourist spot with lots to explore, but a wonderful place to find inner peace, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Don’t miss out on trying the traditional samlor ride through the narrow streets of Wat Chamthewi!
