Hida Folk Village, located in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, is an open-air museum exhibiting over 30 traditional houses from the Hida region. Built during the Edo Period, these structures are a unique look into the history and culture of this mountainous district. Visitors can explore the buildings which include former village head's house, logging huts, storehouses, and the iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses with their steep thatched roofs resembling pairs of hands in prayer. Inside each building, visitors can experience local life in the past and marvel at the unique architecture and antiques on display. The museum also includes a special Hida Takayama Crafts Experience Center, where visitors can take part in workshops and make beaded key chains, sarubobo dolls, ceramic cups, and more. It's an exciting and educational way to witness the captivating culture of Takayama and its people.
