Soweto is a vibrant township located in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa. Don't do it without a guide ! It was formerly a separate municipality and now it has been incorporated into the City of Johannesburg. It is famously known to having been the location of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, the largest popular revolt against the apartheid regime.Today, Soweto is a culturally-rich place, renowned for its lively music, art, cuisine and sport events. It boasts a range of landmarks from Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital to many museums, monuments, memorials and stadiums. With a population of 1,271,628 (2011) representing 98.5% Black African, 1.0% Coloured, 0.1% Indian/Asian and 0.1% White it truly reflects the Rainbow Nation.
