Chūson-ji Temple is a stunning site located in the town of Hiraizumi in Japan's Iwate Prefecture. Originally founded nearly 1,200 years ago, this temple holds incredible historical and religious significance and is home to many cultural artefacts. It was designated as a Special Historic Site in 1979 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. The temple boasts two surviving buildings from the original construction; the Konjiki-dō (Golden Hall) and the Hondō (Main Hall). The Konjiki-dō building is covered with gold leaf on both the interior and exterior and also holds the mummified remains of the Fujiwara Clans’ leaders. The temple is also home to many National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, making it a must-see for history lovers.
