Shuri Castle, located in Okinawa, Japan, was once the palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom before being destroyed during World War II. After years of neglect, the castle was partially reconstructed in the 1990s and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2019, a devastating fire destroyed the main hall and surrounding buildings, prompting ongoing reconstruction efforts expected to be completed by 2026. The castle's unique blend of Chinese and Ryukyuan architecture makes it a symbol of Okinawan history and culture.
