Taketomi Island is a small island full of traditional Ryukyu villages and picturesque beaches in the Yaeyama Islands, close to Ishigaki Island. Travelers can explore the island's unique heritage by discovering its quaint townscapes and crafting traditions, all while relaxing on pristine shores. When visiting Taketomi Island, visitors can experience time-honored minsah weaving traditions, find colorful husks of foraminifera to examine under a magnifying glass at the beach stalls, or simply take a leisurely stroll along the white coral sand streets of the village. There are also activities to explore the island available like walking the Taketomi Island Natural Education Walking Path, or even taking part in the 600-year-old Tanadui Festival to watch traditional song and dance performances.
