Chōhōji (Rokkaku-dō) is a historic Buddhist temple located in Kyoto, Japan. Said to have been originally established by Prince Shōtoku, it features the unique hexagonal shape of its main hall. The temple has a grand history with several legends and stories associated with it. According to one legend, Prince Shōtoku found a small Chinese chest washed ashore and opened the lid to discover an image of Nyoirin Kannon. When he was unable to pick up the Kannon due to its heaviness, he prayed and promised to build the six-sided temple as instructed. The temple was also influential in the establishment of Jōdo Shinshū through Shinran and his 100-day retreat at Rokkaku-dō. Built centuries ago, the temple still stands tall today, offering visitors a glimpse into the fascinating history and legacy of this unique temple.
