Patagonia Lake State Park is a compact, kid-friendly lake where you’ll mostly come to boat, fish, paddleboard and watch birds; the small marina rents boats and kayaks if you do not bring your own. Practical things to know: bring plenty of water, sun protection and a life jacket, carry a valid Arizona fishing license if you plan to fish, and make campsite or boat-ramp reservations early for weekends and spring break because it fills up. The campground accommodates tents and RVs with some electric hookups, restrooms and vault toilets, and cell service can be spotty so pick up supplies in the nearby town of Patagonia. Visit in spring or fall to avoid extreme summer heat and to get the best birding and fishing.
