If you're exploring Wilsons Prom, the Mount Oberon Summit hike is a must-do! This trail is very popular, and for good reason, it offers some of the best panoramic views in the park and is definitely worth the effort. The hike to the summit is about 6.8 kilometers round-trip and can be a bit challenging, but the stunning views at the top make it all worthwhile.

The trailhead starts at the Telegraph Saddle car park, and the path is well-marked and maintained. As you climb, you’ll traverse a mix of forest and rocky terrain, which adds to the adventure. The ascent can be steep at times, so be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

At 558 meters high, the summit rewards you with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, pristine beaches, and the vast expanse of Bass Strait. On a clear day, the sight is absolutely spectacular, and you can see for miles in every direction. It’s a fantastic spot for photos, so have your camera ready. The elevated position of the summit gives you a unique perspective on the beauty of Wilsons Prom, and the sense of accomplishment from reaching the top is incredible. 

My advice: try to do the hike at sunrise or sunset. I tackled it in the evening, and the reward of the orange skies as the sun set along the horizon was stunning. If you’re planning to do it at sunset, be sure to bring a torch for the way down, as it gets dark pretty quickly. This walk is the perfect mix of adventure and stunning natural beauty and is definitely a highlight of Wilsons Prom.
