The Chocolate Hills are an iconic geological formation in Bohol, Philippines. Over 1,260 hills spread across more than fifty square kilometres have made them a popular attraction and symbol of the abundance of natural attractions in the Bohol province. During the dry season these grass-covered hills turn chocolate brown, hence the name! The hills were formed by the dissolution of limestone combined with erosion by streams. The origins of these hills have also generated many legends, such as the battle between two giants or the romance of Arogo and Aloya. Tourists can explore the hills from the viewing points at Chocolate Hills Complex or Sagbayan Peak. The government has declared them a National Geological Monument to be preserved for years to come.
