Unique gravel rock spirals featured in the Lord of the Rings

Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve is a unique and captivating destination located in Wairarapa, New Zealand. This amazing location was used as a filming location for the popular Lord of the Rings trilogy. Actor's journeyed from all across Middle-Earth to walk amongst the Putangirua Pinnacles and experience its natural beauty. Around seven million years ago, this area was an island with Aorangi Range surrounding it. Since then, the mountains have eroded and created gravel that has been washed down to the coast and concreted together by Putangirua Stream. Visitors today can explore three routes leading to Putangirua Pinnacles or its lookout with breathtaking views over Palliser Bay and Lake Onoke. Adventurous travellers won't want to miss out on this unique location!
