Located in Utah County, this stretch of slickrock and desert terrain offers a scaled-down but highly accessible alternative to the famous trails of Moab, hence the name. Little Moab is a favorite spot for off-roaders, rock crawlers, campers, and adventurers looking for big fun close to home.

Why Visit?

  • Off-Roading Paradise
Little Moab is a mecca for OHV and 4x4 enthusiasts, with natural slickrock obstacles, technical climbs, and open stretches perfect for testing your rig or practicing rock crawling techniques. The area’s natural sandstone provides great traction and varied terrain, making it ideal for beginners and seasoned off-roaders alike.

  • Close to the Wasatch Front
Just an hour from Salt Lake City or Provo, this area offers a quick desert escape for locals looking for off-roading, camping, or just a quiet night under the stars without a long drive.

  • Great for All Kinds of Fun
Aside from off-roading, you’ll find plenty of space for dispersed camping, hiking, photography, and just relaxing in wide open desert spaces. The rock formations and views of the West Desert are especially beautiful during golden hour.

Camping & Overnight Info

  • Dispersed camping is allowed and popular, especially on weekends. There are no developed campsites, but you’ll find numerous flat, open spots perfect for tents, vans, and RVs with high clearance.

  • No reservations, no fees. Just pack in and pack out, and practice Leave No Trace.

  • There are no restrooms, no water, and no services, so come prepared with everything you need for an overnight stay—including wag bags or a portable toilet system.

Accessibility & Conditions

  • Located off Little Moab Road (aka W. Side Canyon Road) near Eagle Mountain, access is fairly easy in dry conditions.

  • The main route in is gravel/dirt and passable for most vehicles, but high clearance is recommended, especially if you're towing or coming during/after rain.

  • During busy weekends, expect a mix of Jeeps, rock crawlers, dirt bikes, and UTVs in the area.

  • 4WD is essential if you plan to explore or climb the slickrock.

Pet-Friendly?

Absolutely! Dogs are welcome and will love the open space. Just be mindful of:

  • Hot rock surfaces during warmer months

  • Cactus and other desert hazards

  • Wildlife like snakes or coyotes

Keep your dog leashed or under voice control, and be sure to bring plenty of water for them too.

Best Time to Visit

  • Spring and Fall are ideal for cooler temps and great traction on the rocks.

  • Summer can get very hot, and there’s minimal shade.

  • After rain or snow, the access road can get muddy and slick, so check weather conditions and avoid the area if it’s recently rained.

Tips Before You Go

  • Bring your own shade, water, firewood, and toilet setup—there are zero amenities on site.

  • If you're planning to off-road, make sure your vehicle is trail-ready and that you’re airing down tires appropriately for traction on slickrock.

  • Watch for other vehicles—this place gets busy, and visibility can be limited in some rocky sections.

Getting There

  • GPS Coordinates for the Main Entrance: 40.1856° N, 112.1619° W

  • From Eagle Mountain, head west on Little Moab Road (aka W. Side Canyon Road) until you reach the slickrock area—about 30–40 minutes depending on your vehicle.
