Bachalpsee is a small alpine lake located high above Grindelwald in the Jungfrau region, sitting at an elevation of 2,266 meters (7,434 feet). This picturesque lake is known for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

Getting to Bachalpsee is quite easy. You can start your journey by taking the gondola from Grindelwald to Grindelwald First, which takes about 20 minutes. From there, a well-marked hiking trail leads you to the lake, covering approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) one way. The hike is relatively easy and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, making it suitable for families and beginner hikers.

As you walk along the path, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful alpine flora and stunning mountain views. The trail is wide and mostly obstacle-free, allowing you to take in the scenery without worrying about difficult terrain. Once you reach Bachalpsee, you’ll be rewarded with a tranquil setting perfect for relaxation or a picnic. The lake often reflects the surrounding peaks, creating a picturesque scene that’s perfect for photos.

Seraina's Tip: If you’re feeling adventurous, consider extending your hike to Faulhorn, which offers even more spectacular views and a chance to enjoy lunch at the mountain hut there. The total distance from Bachalpsee to Faulhorn is about 2.75 kilometers (1.7 miles) one way. Please only do this hike if you're wearing sturdy hiking boots and have been on hikes before.
