Cranny Falls is situated near the quaint seaside village of Carnlough, located along the beautiful Antrim coastline in Northern Ireland. The waterfall ‘Cranny Falls’ is the endpoint of a 2 km one-way trail along an old limestone railway track to the abandoned Gortin Quarry.
How to get there?
At Carnlough harbour take the steps going past ‘Harbour Lights’ . This takes you around to the right and across a bridge over the main road. Just follow this trail, it will gradually lead up to Gortin Quarry, where there are seats and viewpoints. Follow the signposted path left to Cranny Falls. It’s so beautiful!
This trail is suitable for all skill levels; I love that during the walk you can garner a sense of the site’s history from informational displays dotted along the way. Breathtaking panoramic views of Carnlough village and the Irish sea can be seen from the top of the falls and nearby viewpoints ; creating the perfect backdrop for photographs.
Facilities in the nearby village of Carnlough include toilets, a free car park. Plus various accommodation and eateries. Home to one of Northern Ireland’s most beautiful harbours, Carnlough is famed amongst locals for its stint doubling as ‘Braavos’ in HBO’s Game of Thrones!
☕️ Twilight Coffee & Bunkhouse - you’ll find one of my favourite coffee shops located in Carlough. The perfect end to your waterfall trail!
🍽️ Londonderry Arms is another great spot for dinner!
