Grande Anse isn’t just a beach — it’s a state of mind.
We woke up in our tent with the sound of the waves crashing just meters away, and the whole beach bathed in soft blue light. Palm trees swaying, waves curling white against black volcanic sand, and birdsong floating through the air. This was La Réunion at its most peaceful — simple, wild, and soul-restoring.
The beach is a huge crescent curve backed by grassy areas and coconut palms. There’s space to breathe, picnic, nap in the shade, or just sit and watch the ocean’s rhythm. It’s not ideal for swimming due to strong currents, but perfect for sunrise strolls, scenic photos, or lazy afternoons with a book.
👉 Insider Tip: Bring food, water, and all camping gear with you — services are minimal, and everything tastes better when you’ve earned it under the stars.
👉 Hidden Gem: Early risers may spot sea turtles offshore, especially just before dawn. And the nearby small natural pool to the south is a secret splash spot when the tide is calm.
