Bassin Pirogue is the small coral lagoon at the southern end of Étang-Salé’s long black sand beach, right beside the town’s fishing and leisure port. The water here is calm when the conditions are right, thanks to the coral reef that shields the inlet. It’s a good spot for swimming and observing marine life like fish, rays, octopuses, and sometimes even moray eels.
This area is more than just a swim stop. It has showers, toilets, and a lifeguard post located between Bassin Pirogue and the main Étang-Salé beach. There are also casual snack bars across the road where you can grab something cold and watch the sunset after a dip.
👉 Only enter the water when it's clear and the sea is calm. Shark sightings have been reported in the area during rough or murky conditions.
