Þakgil is a hidden gem nestled in South Iceland, and one of the most beautiful locations we've ever seen in the country. Located down a bumpy dirt track off Route One near Vik, this place literally looks like another planet.
Although the road to get here technically isn't an F-Road, it's one of the bumpiest roads we've ever driven down. There are several blind peaks and very bumpy sections, which require you to be extra careful.
Once you reach the valley, you'll find a campsite with toilets and showers, a seating area within a cave, and a map leading to some of Iceland's most magnificent hiking trails. There are small trails to waterfalls that take 20 minutes or longer, 4-hour treks to glacier viewpoints. It's truly a magnificent area, and a must-visit for outdoor lovers.
