Located on the least-visited Reykjanes Peninsula, close to Keflavik Airport, Gunnuhver Hot Springs is a fascinating geothermal area. Known for its bubbling mud pots and steaming vents, it's one of Iceland's most fascinating geothermal areas. The landscape is dotted with vibrant colours, and the air is filled with the distinct smell of sulfur.
One of the most interesting stories tied to Gunnuhver is that of a ghost named Gunna, who is said to haunt the area. Legend has it that she was a powerful woman who met her end here, and her spirit still lingers, adding a touch of mystery to the hot springs.
Parking here is completely free, and you can walk along the boardwalks that weave through the geothermal features and admire the scenery in the area. You can also see the lighthouse close by and extend your walk over here if you have time.
