Kvernufoss is an absolutely stunning waterfall in the south of Iceland. It's tucked away in a canyon out of sight, but, if you know where to go, it might just end up being one of the best waterfalls you see on your trip to the island.
Location-wise, it's not far from the popular Skógar area. You have to do a short hike to get there, but this is mostly flat alongside a canyon, and you'll start to see the waterfall in the distance in around 15 minutes. The trailhead starts from the Skogar Museum.
Once you get there, the waterfall is pretty magnificent. Similar to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, you can walk behind Kvernufoss, and the views from there are pretty epic. You can also climb to several viewpoints in the area for other angles on the waterfall.
It's also much more peaceful than some of the other waterfalls in the area, such as Skogafoss, so it makes a fantastic alternative to avoid the crowds.
