The unfinished obelisk in Aswan, Egypt, is a massive work of ancient architecture that offers an incredible insight into the engineering techniques used by Ancient Egyptians. Standing at an impressive 137 feet and weighing 1,200 short tons, this obelisk was ordered by Pharaoh Hatshepsut to be added to Karnak Temple. Unfortunately, due to a fault in the granite, the project was never completed, leaving it as it is today – partially unearthed from its rocky resting place. Intriguingly, the unfinished obelisk allows visitors to view the original tools and processes used by Ancient Egyptian architects, emerging as a unique archaeological testament to the craftsmanship of those who worked on it thousands of years ago.
