The Helsinki Olympic Stadium isn’t just for sports fans — it’s one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Originally built for the 1940 Olympics (which were canceled because of the war), the stadium finally got its big moment when Helsinki hosted the 1952 Summer Olympics. Since then, it’s been the home of countless sports events, concerts, and even everyday joggers on the track.

After a major renovation, the stadium reopened in 2020, and it’s now a beautiful mix of original 1930s functionalist architecture and modern design. The clean white curves and wood details are a treat for architecture lovers.

What to do:

  • Climb the stadium tower: The 72-meter tower offers some of the best views over Helsinki — especially around sunset.

  • Visit the Sports Museum of Finland: Even if you’re not into sports, it’s surprisingly interesting and gives a glimpse into Finland’s Olympic past.

  • Catch an event or concert: From national football games to massive concerts, the stadium hosts it all.

Good to know:

  • The stadium is in Töölö, about 10-15 minutes by tram from the city center.

  • The tower visit is ticketed, but the views are worth it.

  • There’s also a stylish café in the stadium if you want to grab a coffee with a view of the field.
