Iceland was a key location for Allied Forces during WWII, which meant that many armed forces were stationed here during the war. While there were no battles fought in the country, there unfortunately were casualties.

On May 2nd, 1943 a US Air Force B-24 Liberator Bomber named Hot Stuff crashed into Fagradalsfjall mountain on the Reykjaned Peninsula. Unfortunately, there were 14 casualties and one survivor. General Frank Maxwell Andrews was one of the fatalities on that flight. He had been selected to command the entire Allied Forces but General Eisenhower took on that duty after General Andrews' untimely death in the crash.

This memorial was set up to in 2018 to honor those that died in the B-24 crash.
