Just off the Icefields Parkway, Bow Lake is one of those stops that feels just as impressive as Lake Louise — but without the same chaos.

Located about 40 minutes from Lake Louise village, it’s incredibly easy to access, with the lake just a 1–2 minute walk from the parking lot. The water has that classic glacier-fed turquoise color, with Crowfoot Mountain and Bow Glacier sitting right at the end of the lake.

If you want to keep it easy, you can walk along the lakeshore trail, which is mostly flat and lets you explore different angles of the lake while quickly escaping the main crowds. But if you’re up for more, there are some really solid hikes starting from here:

  • Bow Glacier Falls → about 9 km return, minimal elevation gain, taking you deeper into the valley toward a waterfall fed by the glacier

  • Iceberg Lake → more challenging at around 18–20 km return, with bigger elevation gain and a more remote feel

  • Crowfoot Glacier viewpoint → short stop along the parkway nearby for a quick scenic view

You can also just bring a picnic, sit by the water, or take photos — it’s one of those places where you don’t need to do much for it to feel worth it.

It’s less built-up than Lake Louise, a bit quieter, and gives you that raw Icefields Parkway experience — definitely one of the best easy-access stops in the Rockies.

WARNING: Bow Lake BANNED all paddle boards & or Canoes, Kayaks
