The Pinnacles Track in Coromandel Peninsula is a well formed hiking route that follows old kauri logging paths, with a mix of gravel trails, wooden boardwalks, and long stair sections. It’s considered moderate, not technical, but physically steady due to the constant uphill and steps.
Most people take 3 to 4 hours up and about 2 to 3 hours down, or split it with an overnight stay at the DOC hut. The track is suitable for anyone with a reasonable fitness level, though the final section to the summit involves a short, steep climb with ladders and narrow rock steps.
The reward is a sharp rocky peak with panoramic views over the Coromandel, making the effort very worthwhile, especially if you time it for sunrise or sunset.
